I love this picture, it’s a poor abused and neglected dog finally feeling safe. It’s our Cesar. Unfortunately he has a bleeding problem and has to have surgery again today. But he is looking so much healthier, I’m sure he will come thru just fine. I will let you know. The hard part is – for some reason – Cesar is terrified of shots. I’ve never seen a dog react like this, if he sees a needle he gets ready to run, it’s the oddest thing. We’ve had to change all of his meds over to pills. ... See MoreSee Less
Sending prayers and they healthy healing what's love
I saw him with you in the vehicle today at the marina ..so cute
This is when I told him he can’t have breakfast this morning :(
He's so beautiful,,,, and obviously he's in a good place not only in body, but also in his mind too!!!💖 Dogs only show/sleep belly up when they are comfortable and feels safe!!! Warms my heart!💖
Oh he’s cute. I wonder if the people he was abused by were addicts. 😬😕

Looks like he’s had some CBD 🥴
Poor sweet fella. He must have been traumatized by needles along with the rest of his abuse. OR! He has very sensitive skin 🤷🏻♀️. Many hugs and smooches for your doggie. ♥️
Hope all goes well. . . . Have a speedy recovery 💕
I’ll be pulling for the pooch. Very handsome dog. 🤞🤞🤞

I’m so happy to give a good report on Elmer. He’s recovering well and because of your generosity he got the best kind of surgery for his broken leg. They put a fancy looking pin in his leg (I won’t show you the gory details) but he’s up and around. Not using the leg yet but he will. He has been with Arturo the whole time and Arturo says that they all just love him. Arturo arranged the surgery and did all the transport and x-rays. Thank you Arturo. I can’t wait to see him. He’s duded up with a fancy cone of shame that doesn’t look very shameful. This is all such a wonderful thing. Thank you for all your support. ... See MoreSee Less

Wait until you hear this. Our handsome Cesar is taking some time to heal, he was so down when we took him off of the street. It just takes time. We neutered him because our clinic is really small and un-neutered males make it difficult to have all the dogs out and socializing. Now to help with his recovery and because he’s such a charmer a wonderful couple who volunteer every day and live on a boat have offered to foster him. This is a new one. From the streets to a beautiful floating foster home. What a lucky guy. ... See MoreSee Less
Hahaha he’s still undecided on being a boat dog but he is definitely loving the peace and quiet and snuggles. We are loving having him ❤️🥰

And owns the middle of the bed just like mine
It would be nice if they adopted him.
I volunteer to be fostered!! No, like really!! He needs a boat buddy to snuggle with, and give kisses and hugs. I am ready and willing to take one for the team! 🙋♀️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for taking him in. Lately I’ve been having Isla Dog Fever.... like I’m really wanting to come down and adopt another pup! Scout is just the best and to have 2 Isla Wonders. Heaven!!!
Well done Cesar! Time to enjoy life and be happy
That's perfect . A quiet place to come out of his shell on his terms and just be. This boy will need a special home. I love his updates. He's a special soul. So are his foster people <3

Best of luck and lots of love for you Cesar, you deserve it! ❤❤
So many people are watching out for the animals. Someone called Steve who called me to say that there was a dog in really bad shape. We went to get her and they were right, what a sad sight. Unbelievably she is only 3 years old and positive for ehrlichia so we started her on meds which should make a difference, she is skin and bones. We’re also concerned about her liver, Arturo will do an ultrasound tomorrow. What a sweet dog. Her name is Terry and she should weigh at least 30 lbs more than she does now. ... See MoreSee Less
🙁... Thanks for helping her❤️🐾 Does she need a home🏡
<3 thank you
She is a lucky dog in your loving hands!
She’s in the most capable hands on the planet!!!

Thank you all .
How beautiful is she! So glad she’s in safe arms now 🙌🏽
So glad she is with you now and can have a chance to heal and be loved.
God Bless all of you
Soon Elmer will be able to use that leg again. Animal people are the best. We have raised $705.00 out of the $750.00 we needed so it's a go for the surgery. We couldn’t do this without you. Isla Animals just doesn’t have that kind of funds, so thank you everyone. Teirney, Nancy, Suzann, Patricia, Lea, Karen, Robert, Lori, Marcie, Glenda, Rhonda, Rick and Joyce. What a difference this will make for Elmer. He’s going to have a wonderful life. You should all pat yourselves on your back and everyone else who supports Isla Animals as well. ... See MoreSee Less
Thank you Linda, Randolph and Hina, we have surpassed our goal for Elmer which is fantastic, it will pay for his x-rays as well. I will keep every one up to date.

Great news. Thank you everyone .
I just made it $750. Wasn't a place to designate it for Elmer tho.
OMGOODNESS I love him. I will upgrade my monthly donation by a few dollars. Just have to figure out how. Wish it could be SOOOO much more.
I sent money for Caesar! If there is any left over, please use it for Elmer!
It’s always a pleasure to help our furry friends get better...🐾❤️🐾😊
Mr. Elmer Adorable...what a great name!
Awe! I love him!
I am so glad!
Yea!!! Good luck!!!🍀
He’s so cute. I’ll be visiting isla mujeres in April. Are you open for visitors? I’d love to stop in. I work at a shelter in nj and always love meeting with folks who do the same.
We decided to name our new little guy Elmer in honor of Nancy’s father. I made a list of some of the great name suggestions you had and we’ll use them in the future. We had Elmer x-rayed and his leg is badly broken. He’s staying with our Vet, Arturo right now until we decide what to do. The surgery will cost 14,500 pesos, which is aprox. $750.00 USD. It would be wonderful if people wanted to donate to help with the cost. He’s such a sweetie and deserves all four legs, it will be great to see him out of pain. ... See MoreSee Less
This is the link to donate, please put Elmer's name in the note's space so we know it's for him. Thank you for your help. http://islaanimals.org/donate-animal-rescue-isla-animals/

another way to look at it is you let your dog, cat have a litter. Maybe you do find homes for them all, those same people could have adopted instead..
Yesterday was our free spay and neuter day, we did 7 cats and dogs. A young man came over from Cancun with this poor little dog that he’d found in the street. It has a broken leg and is very timid but sweet. He’s staying with us and getting an x-ray today. Then we can decide about the leg. I will let you know what needs to be done. It was one of those, “you had me at hello,” moments. I’m a huge sucker for small white dogs, even more than I am for all other dogs. By the way he needs a name. ... See MoreSee Less

Bendito for blessed! 🐾❤️ I too am a sucker for little white dogs. lol
Oh wow . Poor dog . He must be inpain .
So cute! I love little white dogs most of all. I’m glad he’s getting the treatment he so obviously needs.
Look at those eyes, not as sad as they were. Caesar is still being treated for Ehrlichia so he's not gaining weight as fast as we'd like. But he's getting so many walks and definitely building some muscles and trust. The fur that he has is looking better but his bald spots are going to take a while. He charms everyone, plays with toys and gets lots of hugs. ... See MoreSee Less
When we were there the last week of February, I didn't think he would respond so quickly. How long do you think it will take for him to get past the Ehrlicia? Do you need more $ for treatment....probably a rather dumb question as I know you can use the $ at anytime! We'll see what we can do on that.
We saw him the day after he came to the clinic. This is a MUCH better look for him :)
He is a handsome lad. It looks like he is doing so much better. Well done Isla Animals!
He even looks like he's feeling better <3
Wow what a difference already. He knows he is safe now.
He looks so much happier already! Omg what a difference!
Oh my, he looks so much better!! You all are his angel. Thank you again!!

He's so handsome!
Oh wow .he is looking so much better . I can see it in his eyes. Thank you

Such a sweet mama !
Everyone looks so sweet ...... Woof!!
I know you said the male dog was aggressive but is he neutered?
Adorable ! Great work!!!
Here’s an update on the family that was evicted. They came to our free spay day yesterday with the two larger dogs but told the receptionist that they weren’t going to pick the dogs up. The receptionist, of course, would not take them. So the family went to our rescue at Mundaca and were there when I arrived. The female was uncomfortably swollen from not nursing her pups, it looked infected so I took her back to Arturo’s clinic. We spay her and I took her home. She is such a sweet dog, we will just have to find a way. Unfortunately the male dog is aggressive and we can’t take him. Taking 8 out of 9 of their dogs is all we can offer. I'll get better pictures ... See MoreSee Less

How big is momma? Just look at that face.
Happy and sad
Reminds me of my sweet Clienta.
Does the male still get neutered so he can not reproduce?
We have a new litter of pups. It was a sad situation. A family had been evicted from their home and they had a large male dog and a large female nursing 7 five week old pups. Unfortunately we can’t take unvaccinated animals into the clinic and all of our fosters are full, in fact we are packed full at the clinic too. I was about to tell them they would have to wait for us to take any of them when someone pointed out that one of the pups couldn’t lift his head. I checked his gums – white and he was dehydrated. We took them to my house right away. It was iffy on a few of them but wow, this morning they are happy, energetic and eating like champs. And the family is bringing the two bigger dogs in for our free spay and neuter clinic today. I hope they found a place where they can keep them. ... See MoreSee Less

Sending all the love in my heart to this darling boy. I long to see a happy smile instead of those sad eyes some day.
Update on Caesar. Caesar is adjusting to life at the clinic. We’ve discovered that it isn’t Caesar who has the problem with other dogs, it’s a few of our larger females who are being brats and giving this poor un-neutered male a hard time. Caesar still doesn’t feel well, he’s eating and resting but his skin still bleeds in places and he’s wary. Chelsea and I sat outside with him and some of the smaller dogs and he did so well. Oddly, a former owner came by and Caesar was happy to see him but the man would not touch him. Very sad to see, the man said that he had given Caesar to his aunt who hadn’t taken proper care of him. All I know for sure is that this poor dog has had a very deprived life. ... See MoreSee Less
This morning on our walk he played with Guera, chased sticks, and snuggled Tyson ❤️❤️ He’s doing amazing!
Lucky boy that he found Isla Animals.
Awe, what a sweet boy. So happy to hear he is adjusting and coming around a bit. I hope he continues to improve each day. Wish I was visiting soon to give him some love! 😍Thank you for giving him the love and affection he so deserves and needs. He is in such great hands now! ❤️

You ladies do an amazing job, Thank you for your updates, Abby says Thank you from Alaska
so happy for him now
I have no doubt...you’ll turn him around!
Love the updates, thanks!
At least he is in good hands now, thank God!!
Update on Caesar. Our poor Caesar is not happy at the clinic. As I’ve said many times – we’re not set up for large dogs. He doesn’t feel well and he’s used to being on the streets and he doesn’t like other dogs. He’s good with people who are gentle with him but hates the puppies (most adult dogs do – puppies haven’t learned their dog etiquette yet). We’re going to work with him, he’s so young, but we like to let all of our dogs out to play in the clinic during the day and he’s not able to join in. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ... See MoreSee Less
Maybe give him a few more days to adjust and heal? I suggest giving him the most private kennel possible. Try covering it half way to give him his own “space”. Let him have time outside without the other dogs on leash. It’s obvious he feels like crap so puppies and other dogs would be extra annoying. When he feels better, he may be very different! I wish you all the best with this rehabilitation.
He is at the clinic across from Isla palace? I can comment on trip advisor that anyone headed there on vacation to take him for a walk
Can someone foster him and take him out of that environment for awhile so he can be less stressed and then maybe he can develop his personality
WOW Nirit Ben David what an extremely kind offer!! How is your sweet Lab? Alison Sawyer Current Anna Krallis I’ve seen great things accomplished with acupuncture! I’ll see if I can find some CBD treats for the poor boy plus Kevin is always great with the sad ones!!! He’s a sucker for the hard cases....would you please pm me a pic of him so I can share with Kevin he is not on fb. Thank you all!
I wish we were there to foster him. His eyes break my heart. Reminds me of poor Jack. Who now is a pampered Canadian pooch. All it takes is time and love.
I hope someone on Isla can help Please
He looks like he needs a loving home , where he is the only dog.
Maybe have him put with a puppy at a time in some low key play away from the others. He needs to socialize, but all the dogs at once is too much stimulation. He hasn’t learned how to dog yet
He’s still pretty shut down and under he learned slowly that he’s safe now, he might not open up to a big group.
Is it possible to have him fostered with one human, and slowly socialize him?
Every dog that shuts down has their own response timing.
One on one time might go further and gradually bring him around.
Love love love
Few suggestions : Try find a calm female dog that he could have as a companion. If staffing allows let them out after all the others by themselves. Bachs Flower Remedies have one called Rescue, may help with anxiety like the hemp chews. Perhaps someone flying down could bring it along. There is a method from Tellington Touch techniques where a simple human tensor bandage is formed into a loop. The loop is then twisted once to form a figure eight. The front of the loop goes around the dogs front chest then crosses up over back and second loop around rear end down a bit on the upper flank. Snug but not tight. Theory is that it helps the dog feel connected, reduces anxiety and has a calming effect like a weighted blanket. Have used this method with canines and llamas and found it worked very well. It seems hes suffering from mange/mites ?? He will be very uncomfortable until this improves, understandably. There is a tonic made with organic lemon which can be quite effective. Two organic lemons steeped in about 1liter boiled distilled water, left for 24 hrs. Then the tonic is used to bath/soak areas. Lemons are very hard to find in México, perhaps in Cancun ? Don’t know if lime , limón would work the same. Best of luck, wish i were there to lend a hand.
Maybe a companion other than another canine might help..Foster is absolutely a place to start. Maybe a stall with a pony, etc... I know that's asking alot. just trying to think of things.
Just looking at him brings tears to my eyes. More time to adjust and feel better and love. That’s what he needs
I will do distance reiki. If still there in April will stop in to see him.
This picture is making me cry. He looks so sad
Easy for me to think/say...since I'm not there to offer but is there anyone in Isla that can foster him until he is healthy enough for a forever home? Agin...I know this is easier said than done and I know you probably have already tried. xo
Omg. Poor baby . He looks so sad . Thank you so much . I hope he will be ok . He is beautiful .
Have patience and he’ll open up 🙏 please don’t give up your all he’s got 😔🙏 praying
Poor boy. He is so sad. I wish he could understand that his life is going to get so much better.
Is he food motivated? You could make some puzzles with food
Poor guy. I can find him a home up here if anyone will fly him to New England?
This breaks my heart to see how sad he looks. He couldn’t be in better hands. Please keep us updated as he blossoms under your care. You are amazing! ❤️ to you, Caesar
Maybe just let him out with 1 dog. My alpha took a good 45 days to get used to the new pup and that was with a couple of attacks. A one on one private leashed Walk 10 min a day may also raise his spirits.
he needs a "buddy" that will take him out on his own. For walks and maybe to hang out at their house for the afternoon or morning. He needs to get away for some times on his own.. Maybe some one could foster him?
Poor thing i have no suggestions except maybe block an area off for just him
Awwww, what a cutie! Anna, we would love to help. But, think our girl has too much puppy energy as well.
Foster would be best bet. Lots of walks.
This is Caesar. I thought we were past finding dogs like this on the island. Caesar had an owner and when I picked him up all the neighbors were glad to see him get some help. He’s malnourished, has demodex mange and ring worm and open wounds. And it’s hard to believe but this sweet dog is only one year old. He also ducks when you pet him which means he’s been smacked around. I wished I knew more swear words in Spanish to use on the owner. ... See MoreSee Less

Prayers for his speedy recovery, both physically and emotionally!
What a beautiful dog! So happy he found help and hopefully a wonderful family when he heals! Thank you for all you do! 💕🐾💕
The guy should be arrested.
Poor Caesar!! Hope you are keeping him!!!
I took Caesar for a walk yesterday and noticed how he cowered. He is such a sweet dog. Thank you Isla for saving him.
Sad- people are despictable to abuse animals!
GOD DAMN HIS FORMER SO CALLED OWNERS...BETTER OFF WITH YOU.
God bless you for giving him a loving home.
I will find out the area my heart broke for the dog! I hope my donation helped! Thank u for all u do
I'DSMACK THE OWNER AROUND! Ugh, sorry. Anger and sorry and hope and prayers and relief and disbelief...all at once. Thank you for saving this beautiful boy. No more suffering. JUST LOVE AND TRUST
And, poor thing, he looks soooo very broken 😔
I just don’t get it. 😔
While I was on the Island recently I was concerned about a dog similar that was unable to use one of his back legs! My sister emailed u the area wasn’t in town
I posted about a little boy in the spring who was handed a puppy as he was walking down the street. Sometimes when people are ready to get rid of a litter of pups they don’t care where they go. Well this little boy came to our shelter with the pup and asked for help. We thought it was great until it came time to spay her and then he wouldn’t do it. Now she has nine puppies. And his mother who never wanted the dog thinks she can sell them. I went by and de-wormed each pup. Sorry, but the whole situation makes me so mad, and who suffers, probably the pups. ... See MoreSee Less
The city officials could possibly enforcing dog licenses, along with spay, as they do most places now. They could bring in revenue to maybe create something nice for Isla.
So fed up with people
that mother needs to be spayed now!!!
Poor thing. What is their plan for the pups? Will they consent to spay now? So frustrating.
The law in isla mujeres states that pet owners have to sterilise their pets. The problem is that the authorities do not enforce this. 😡
Plus if anyone sees puppies being sold or being given out as gifts online, the director if ecologia carlos barranco should be made aware asap.
Sad situation. I went by Isla yesterday and dropped off some items. Hope you can use them. Chewy.com sent the food ,some of the shampoo and ear cleaning solution. I have their email address is you want to contact them.
All because one little boy made the wrong call...😡
Oh wow . Very sad but they are beautiful .
Ugh. That’s all you need, nine more dogs that won’t be taken care of. So sad for them.
It must be so frustrating for all of you, yet you don’t give up and continue to save as many dogs as you can each day. You are amazing!!!!!
Must be so frustrating. Why did he have the sense to ask for help but turn down spaying. 😔
Poor little pups and the mama pup. Spay and neuter should be mandatory
Awe so cute. I wish they were in your care.
Education education education! And you're doing it! Wonder if the schools on Isla would be amiable to having someone come in and speak to the children. 😕
You need to fly to Isla and find your forever pup!
So sad. They are so precious. Saying prayers for them.
It is a sad reality - all over the world! All we can do is what you’re doing now and that’s educating the masses.
Do you have the puppies? Omg, there so cute. I hope you can save them
So sorry this continues to happen. Rescue work is very frustrating and rewarding at the same time. You do great work there.🐕

Daria, whose life was saved by Isla Animals, is en route to Minnesota with flight angel Linda, whose spirit of volunteerism will enable little Daria to live her best life!!!
Thank you to Isla Animals for their amazing, active dedication to creating a culture of rescue in the Quintana Roo area of Mexico. Isla Animals welcomes volunteers and visitors, so drop by next time you're in Isla Mujeres...or plan a special trip!
Thank you to Linda for reaching out to us and your willingness to bring Daria to Minnesota with you. Seems Daria was born at the perfect time - she is so lucky, thanks to you.
Thank you to Secondhand Hounds for saying yes to Daria, and for your amazing work in saving an average of 12 dogs per day! That's a lot of love!!!
And thank you to each and every Mutt Mutt Engine liker, follower, donor, sharer, supporter and volunteer. You are how this engine runs, and we and those we serve are ever so grateful for you.
Please spread the word and help us grow our growing community! Thanks again! ... See MoreSee Less
Daria was part of a litter we called The Gas Pup because they were found at the propane outlet next to the garbage dump. We spay the mom and that's the best result, get the pups - spay the mom
Where are you located? I am on the island and would love to stop by, make a donation and get some much needed dog time.
Tears of JOY! There's a special place in Heaven for you! <3 Every time we're on Isla, we visit, donate, etc. Soooo rewarding... <3
This is definitely a australian cattle dog! How cool. There are a lot if them in Texas....didnt know they got to Mexico some how!
I'll be down Feb 27-Mar 6, and if anyone in the Calgary Edmonton are is considering I would be up for taking a pup back with me.
Meet Hughie. When we picked up puppies from Rancho Viejo a few weeks ago one of them had been hit by a car. The poor little thing was lying on a piece of foam, in pain, his leg was swollen to double it’s normal size. We took Hughie to the Arturo that day and the x ray showed his leg had been broken in three places. The best thing to do was remove the leg. He has adjusted beautifully. I know he still thinks he has four legs and he loves to play and gets along with all the other pups, even Trina’s cat. We’re waiting until his stitches heal before we neuter him. Way to adjust Hughie. ... See MoreSee Less
Love to give Hughie a home❤️😍🐾 When is he ready for adoption ❓🐾❤️

I can't thank you enough for all you do! Saving these sweet, beautiful, lovable, helpless animals.
Have a happy life sweet boy 💙
We have an amazing progress report. In the last three weeks - on our free spay Thursday - we have done 45 spays and neuteres. So many islanders are bringing their animals in to be sterilized that we have had to bump the pups from our rescue to Fridays. We have also – with our amazing Anna – rehomed 18 pups and dogs. But yesterday was something special because MY KING GEORGE was actually healthy enough to be adopted. Here he is in his new home, on the bed of course. Just our beautiful Punkin left, what a miracle they all are. ... See MoreSee Less
And Punkin is taken!! ❤️❤️. Day two owning him and look how he snuggled up! We are in love 😍😍😍
So AWESOME that the people are taking advantage of this service and getting their dogs spayed/neutered. You must be doing a great job educating people too!!!

I just had to post this picture, we were weighing the new puppies at Trina’s house and didn’t have our regular puppy scale. Trina’s food scale did the trick. There are five of these little guys and they are doing so well. ... See MoreSee Less

Aw so cute
That little heart shaped nose!!!
Exactly what I have already packed for Nov!
Trina and I had a busy day in Rancho Viejo a few days ago. We reserved the space for next year’s spay and neuter clinic and then visited a man who had called and asked for help. Wonderful man. He was caring for twenty dogs as well as building a shelter in front of his property for street dogs. He needed help with puppies, some that he’d saved off of the street and a litter that one of his dogs had. We took 5 one month old pups, (the mother had stopped nursing) and we’ll go back and spay the mom. We also took four 2 ½ month old pups that were in rough shape. All around a good thing, less pups on the street and more dogs spayed and neutered, that’s our goal. ... See MoreSee Less
Los extraño muchísimo, pero agradezco infinitamente que nos hayan ayudado para encontrar un buen hogar, dónde les den mucho amor y cuidados.

Love what you do! 💖
King George graduated today, he went to the clinic. He is 90% cured and such a sweetheart. He’s at least 7 months old and gaining weight, just a pig actually. We neutered him last Thursday, then another week or two for all his fur to fill in and he will be ready to go. He’s going to love the clinic with bigger more energetic dogs to play with. Yeah King George. What a transformation. ... See MoreSee Less
