This is Jems, he has been in foster with Michele and is the only survivor of him litter. They died of parvo. It’s so sad but these street pups have no immune system and are extra vulnerable to any virus that presents itself. Incredibly some dogs have natural immunities, Ralynn (white) is also the only survivor from her litter. It’s heartbreaking for the volunteers and staff at the clinic to watch them suffer but worth the struggle for those pups who survive. ... See MoreSee Less

What a fantastic evening last night! We had a fund raiser at Tiny GECKO restaurant and bar next to the ocean downtown. So many wonderful people showed up to support us. We’re especially grateful to Tiny, Perry Ringlein Gail Marie Stewart Rick Melase and Francine Gagnon They raised 8,969 pesos. We can do so much with that! ... See MoreSee Less
Add 500 pesos to the amount raised, I had a new blue 500 peso note in with the blue 20 peso notes.

We’re so pleased with our free spay day every Thursday. Last week we did 23 animals and this week we did 14. It all adds up and makes a huge difference. Thank you everyone who donates and volunteers, you make this possible. Update on our skin pups. King George is doing so well that we neutered him yesterday. Raylynn is at the clinic playing with the other pups. It’s Punkin who is with me and has the wonky legs. The splints are making a difference, his legs are straighter when we take them off. Part of that is because he’s not feeling well so he’s not active. I’m taking him to see Arturo today and will let you know how it goes. ... See MoreSee Less
So many of our street pups are having trouble with their legs. We’ve seen it before and treated it with extra calcium. It takes a while but usually gets better. This year it has been a bigger problem. Punkin is the worst, he got better and then he got worse, we have no idea why. Luckily Chelsea is here from Belgium and she’s a physical therapist for animals and has been coming to the house every morning and working on his legs. Plus we are splinting him at night, it has already helped a lot. If anyone has any suggestions or has seen this please let us know your experiences. ... See MoreSee Less
thank you Chelsea for helping little Punkin 💓💓
They originally called him Pumpkin, but Bundy used to red-neck-it-up and call me Punkin, so that is what we are calling this pup now.
This afternoon Abby arrived at her for ever home in Wasilla, Alaska. Thank you Jeremy and Theresa and Isla Animals.
Great work Chelsea!!!
My little mica
Thanks for all you do

Laura McKenny have you ever seen this before? Poor little guy
Amy Budd recently treated a rescue pup with the same bent legs and it was diagnosed as rickets. The vet gave the pup treatment and she was back to normal within a couple of days. Maybe Amy can confirm the treatment.
My vet here suggested it might be nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism... so it sounds like you’re doing the right stuff already. Balanced diet with calcium, vitamin D, and splints to help bones. We will do some research into the best supplements to help puppies with it and get some to you ASAP.
His legs look like my legs when I was young . I have hypophosphatemic , vit D resistant rickets and can not regulate vit D or calcium absorption . I wore braces for years and the only treatment was mega doses of Vit.D . It is genetic and now the treatment is taking phosphorus to enable the absorption of Vit D and calcium . Just a thought .
Dee Morrison have you come across any pups like this?
Poor boy. We had one just like this. He got better, then worse before making a full recovery. So there is hope! Make sure you’re feeding a kibble that is not too high in protein and don’t give ANY supplements. You basically have to slow the growth. Calcium tabs for sure! Then just take time. Kelli Stokes with RSQ Dogs also had a dog who had similar symptoms that we initially thought was rickets too but she ended up having something entirely different. Maybe she can shed some light.
Is he on vitamin D?
Poor little dog . I pray he makes it .

Ha ha, so we just didn’t have enough puppies. A group from Tulum wrote and asked if we could take a litter of 9 pups. We all network in the hopes of helping each other out when needed. All wonderful people. So of course we said yes. Steve kindly met the escort and brought the pups to my house. Don’t tell Jeff, he’s on the road driving down here. I now have 19 dogs and pups at the house. I know that I will have to move a few before he gets here. Even “poor Jeff has his limits. That’s my husband for anyone who doesn’t know and everyone thinks he’s a saint for putting up with me. ... See MoreSee Less
Lisa and Richelle were amazing saving these “teletubbies”. Thanks so much to Steve for the cancun trip to get them. Such little chunky monkeys.
Nancy my family is very interested in helping and bringing a pup home to Canada. Would love to hear back and see what we can do.
Thank you!! I just finished reading The Dog Lady of Mexico. Amazing!!
Jeff, aka Brad. I am so moved by your book. You are not a crazy dog lady, you are an Angel! An advocate, a person who cares!
It could be worse, you could be a cat lady.
You have such a huge heart!

Am down in April, would like to see the shelter. Is that possible?
Love what you do for the animals! Visited your place when I was on Isla in December
Justin Bue so many puppies!
Home sweet home....
Oh oh hope Jeff doesn't see your post, lol!
Thanks for taking them in - and thanks to Elyse Richelle for taking them in for the days between the jungle and Isla
What is 9 more puppies. He probably will not even notice them hahahaha
Wish I could be there to help!

I’m so happy for Diva. Trina found her in the streets of Cancun. She’s 9 or 10, with the energy of a 5 year old. My theory is that people abandon older dogs fearing the cost of medical care. We had to do a dental on her and spay her amongst other things. Both Trina and I fostered her and I figured she would be with me for life since she’s pretty old, and has about 4 teeth left. Besides I love the older dogs. Just on a whim I took her to the clinic last week and Karen fell in love with her. What a treat, Diva really wanted her own person. She’s now a Canadian and happy happy. Alone in the streets to a warm couch, don’t you love it. ... See MoreSee Less

I do love that. 🇨🇦 too.
All dogs are charming in their own way but some dogs are just CHARMING to everyone. I called him Miel which means honey but I think Rick is going to give him a different name. We got so many phone calls about this dog it was amazing. All people who cared and worried about him. He’d been abandoned and was hanging out near some rental houses at the South end of the island. All the renters loved him but when they left the home owners didn’t want him around. Unfortunately we are too full to take another big dog but Rick stepped up and offered to foster him. Thank you so much Rick. This guy is special. ... See MoreSee Less

Another save and happy adoption! Meet Jack Daniels! Surrendered at 2 weeks old by a local down on his luck man, who could not care for him properly. Jack was covered in ticks and fleas. Cleaned him up, then team effort between Trina and Anna fostering him at home to get him healthy. He blossomed into a sweet energetic pup and went home to Indiana on Saturday with this awesome family who volunteer regularly! Happy trails Jack! This makes us so happy!!! ... See MoreSee Less

We have some new arrivals. A family brought a puppy to Arturo’s office and my first question always is, “where did you get it?” It turns out they got this one from the propane gas place on the island. So I went and picked up the last three. The owner also agreed to spay the mom at our free spay day next week. She’s looking pretty bad but most ‘sort of owned’ nursing mothers usually do. The pups are in foster until we can get a vaccine in them. Such cuties. ... See MoreSee Less

Siempre he dicho que falta un programa constante y gratuita de esterilización de perritos y gatitos de la calle por parte de los municipios, por lo menos de 3 años para ver resultados a largo plazo, por los animalitos y por salubridad
Are they open to having. Food delivered for the momma? If so I’ll go by with a bag? I know where she is
Parece q no entendemos q ay q esterilizar a nuestras mascotas. Es triste ver a tantos perritos en abandono😔😔😔😔
We saw the mom when we went there to refill out tank and guessed she was nursing, but we couldn't find the pups even after looking and trying to follow her! So glad you're taking care of them 😍

Look who has a home. This is Eliza, she joined us a few months ago, an owner surrender. They couldn’t handle her but as it turned out all she needed was love and exercise. Anna was amazing, she took her to the beach every day and showered her with love and attention. So our beautiful Eliza went from nervous and jumpy to loving and so so special. She left yesterday for her forever home. It just makes you smile doesn’t it? I think it’s really sad when people miss what a wonderful animal they have because they don’t put any effort into it. ... See MoreSee Less
She is settling in nicely. Definitely testing the limits, but we have her in check and are showing her what is acceptable and what is not. She and her fur siblings are doing lots of running in the yard, and we have been taking walks around the subdivision also. Hard to wear this one out, but we are giving it our best shot, LOL 😉
Emily Blair Tuchek, Karen Holden, Russ Slough- Corgi Roxy has found a family!
Her favorite thing is movie nights at our home! The whole family (Jay, the kids and I) cuddle up with all the dogs, on the couches in our TV room. She has so much energy that she can only snuggle for a few minutes before hopping down, but then comes back up. She lasts longer if she has a toy or bone to work on while she watches 🙂 I'll post pics soon, I promise...too busy keeping her out of mischief to get many pictures, lol!
Wonderful! Good going Anna 😄
She’s beautiful !
oh sweet Eliza!!! So happy for her!
All they need is love and maybe a belly scratch❤️❤️🐾
So true.....great job Anna!!!
If they have children they probably can't handle them either🤠
So Beautiful!! Thank God she has found a great home!!
She was such a gem too!!! Thank you Anna!!
So true, some people really don’t understand the beauty of a pet being part of the family❤️🐾
Toto dog is so special. I posted about him before. He was surrendered by a family on the island. Unfortunately he’d been hit by a car last year and was not checked afterwards. It definitely broke his tail but he also has trouble with his kidneys, whether it came from the injury or not – we don’t know. So far we have treated him for infections, heartworm and incontinence but the pills don’t help with the incontinence, Arturo thinks it’s more complicated. I bought diapers today. If anyone has any tips on this let me know. ... See MoreSee Less
Awwww thank u so much for your work helping theses dogs !
I've got some experience with incontinent dogs. If he can get away with just a belly band I'd do that to minimize chaffing.
If he leaks too much for that, get some maxi/Poise pads and put them in the band. Bands can have a wide variety of fits, but they can be custom made different widths, lengths, fabrics, etc. I used to get mine from: http://www.pekeatzurescue.com/storefurbabybellybands.htm (their website is down as of 1/2 but they are working to get it back up ASAP per their FB page, you can contact them there if you need custom ones)
Thank you for caring for this little guy.
He may just have to wear a belly band all of the time. Just insert a maxi pad. My mom has to do this with one of her dogs because he constantly tries to mark the furniture.
I have a sweet older dog with a bad incontinence problem. We have used re-usable diapers for her and they have worked really well. They wash well in the washing machine and haven't seemed to cause her any discomfort. These are very similar to what we have used:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071DBBYYB?aaxitk=4XqzAOKUg0TFDqMhlfODKw&pd_rd_i=B071DBBYYB&pf_rd_p=3ff6092e-8451-438b-8278-7e94064b4d42&hsa_cr_id=8526330200601&sb-ci-n=productDescription&sb-ci-v=Pet%20Parents%20Washable%20Dog%20Diapers%20(3pack)%20of%20Durable%20Doggie%20Diapers%2C%20Premium%20Female%20Dog%20Diapers%2C%20Comfy%20and%20Stylish%20Dog%20Wraps%2C%20Premium%20Diapers%20for%20Dogs

Any chance of a bladder infection?
A UTI would make him leak
God Bless this sweet Angel <3
Poor baby , so adorable , I hope u can help him
You can get washable pads so you don't have to buy all of those paper ones and create waste. Check out Etsy - they are quite affordable. https://www.etsy.com/search?q=washable%20pads Many have snaps that would snap around a belly band - or you could ask makers to make some custom ones.
My dog has issues with stones when this happened. Is it possible he may have stones?
can he walk and is just incontinent? or does he have back end issues?
Poor Baby! Sending Prayers for recovery!
Poor little dog .
poor little guy! No, you are doing it right, I have a male and a female that have to wear bellyband with a diaper (like the photo) and my girl wears her diva pants with a diaper also. That way, if they have an accident, it's in the diaper. No stress, frustration etc... both the dog and family are happy. thank you for saving him.
Happy New Year everyone. I wanted to update you on our skin pups. They’re doing really well, baths every day and meds for fungus and now we’re actually seeing some new fur. Raylynn (top) has the most and King George (bottom) is really improving. Pumpkin (middle) is a bit behind but he’s still the first one to wag his tail and has the most amazing spots. They’re so lucky to have the same afflictions so they can be together. I can’t wait to post after pictures. ... See MoreSee Less

Hi everyone, I know that many of you have seen that these are the people we're trying to help. They live in houses like the one below, in fact this is one of the better houses, it has old political posters on the roof to keep the rain out. The dogs they are holding are the lucky ones even though their life span will be short. Most of the dogs have no owners and no care. Please donate, we are a 501C3 in the US and can offer a tax deduction. It's a great time to give and we will put every penny to work. Thanks for all your support - past and future. Here is the last of my skin pups. Her name is Raylynn and she had a really rough start, none of her litter-mates made it but she is gaining weight and strength. She's in better shape, or her skin is, than her two coral mates, but she's really shy, I don't think that she was ever touched by humans before she came to us. The best thing is that the three have each other and they're starting to play with toys. I love to see that. I have high hopes for all of them. ... See MoreSee Less

I'm so proud of our Isla community! We are overloaded with surrendered pups we rescued after spay/neutering 1124 animals in 5 days!!! From a group of school children socializing the dogs, to fosters opening up their homes! Want to help? We are short of funds to treat the pups. Even $10 goes a long way! Pretty please!

It's a wrap! Isla Animals 5 day spay neuter campaign is over! 1124 dogs and cats will not be reproducing! Goal was 1000! And 58 puppies were rescued! Still short on the fundraising side, won't you consider helping? skip a margarita or a latte?
